A 20-Something Girl Spotlight: Madi Julius

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to my day 1 Wake Forest friend, Madi Julius! Madi and I met on the first day of health class freshmen year. She was sitting next to me in a ball cap and jeans and had a smile that made everyone around her light up. Over the past 4 years, our friendship has grown so much and she inspires me everyday with her love for Christ, and her enthusiastic zest for life!

Where are you from?

Hershey, Pa…the sweetest place on Earth :)

Which celeb would play you in a movie?

KATNISS EVERDEEN! I love seeing females in badass roles like J Law in the Hunger Games.

What makes you the happiest?

  1. Seeing my mom happy.
  2. Being in Montana.
  3. Going to my church at home.

What qualities do you look for in a true friend?

For me a true friend is someone that you can go forever without seeing, but when you get together you pick up right where you left off.

Tell us a little bit about your role on the Wake Forest Field Hockey Team.

I’ve been a starter since freshman year…I’m definitely a competitor with ado-or-die mentality…Although I am pretty intense I also provide a lot of comic relief on the team, for some reason I am always that player that falls flat on my face or trips over my stick…

Right before my sophomore season at Wake, I underwent a pretty extensive surgical repair on my hip.  It was devastating because so much of my identity was in sport, and now that it was stripped away from me out of the blue I really didn’t know what to do with myself.

During the 6 month rehabilitation process however, I came to the realization that field hockey was not who I was, but rather a very small part of who I am.  I also gained a whole new appreciation for my health, which was something that I definitely took for granted.

You are also involved with Mary Kay cosmetics. How did you start selling this line?

I am an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay.  My aunt who is a National Sales Director actually got me into it.  I finally caved because not only do I love Mary Kay’s products, but I love giving makeovers and making people feel really good about themselves.

What piece of advice would you give to other 20-Something girls?

One thing that I have learned through college sports that applies to every aspect of life is to “fake it, till ya make it!”

XOXO,

Rachael Claire
